21 Mar Taekwondo Ontario Announces 2026-2027 Team Ontario Selection Criteria

Richmond Hill, ON – March 21, 2026 — Taekwondo Ontario is pleased to announce the release of the 2026–2027 Team Ontario Athlete Selection Criteria, establishing a clear, transparent, and equitable framework for the selection of athletes to represent Ontario at the provincial level.

The updated criteria reflects Taekwondo Ontario’s continued commitment to excellence, integrity, and equal opportunity, while ensuring accountability and consistency throughout the athlete selection process.

Purpose of the Criteria
The 2026–2027 Team Ontario Athlete Selection Criteria outlines the principles, eligibility requirements, and performance expectations for athletes seeking inclusion in Team Ontario. Selection to Team Ontario is a necessary prerequisite for consideration for future funding opportunities, high-performance training camps, and selection to Open Championships. Through this framework, Taekwondo Ontario aims to foster athlete development while maintaining high standards of professionalism and conduct.

Key Details
The selection period for the 2026–2027 Team Ontario program will run from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Athletes must meet all eligibility requirements, including membership in good standing, adherence to Taekwondo Ontario’s Code of Conduct and Safe Sport principles, participation in designated training camps, and competition in required provincial, national, and international events as outlined in the criteria.

Performance and Future Funding Considerations
Only athletes selected to Team Ontario will be eligible for future funding considerations, High Performance (HP) training opportunities, and selection to national or international training camps and Open Championships. Athlete performance may be evaluated using results from provincial selection games, Canadian National Championships, Canada Opens, and World Taekwondo–sanctioned international events.
