Ontario Dominates the Podium at 2026 Canadian National Taekwondo Championships

Ontario’s taekwondo athletes delivered a gold‑standard performance at the 2026 Canadian National Taekwondo Championships (February 4–7, 2026), establishing Ontario as the dominant province with an exceptional medal haul across Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (forms) events.

Competing across the Senior, Junior, and Cadet divisions, Ontario athletes demonstrated outstanding depth, consistency, and competitive excellence.

Kyorugi (Sparring): Ontario Sets the Gold Standard

Ontario athletes captured 81 Kyorugi medals, including a dominant 26 gold medals, along with 18 silver and 37 bronze.

  • Gold (26): Senior 9 | Junior 11 | Cadet 6
  • Silver (18): Senior 5 | Junior 4 | Cadet 9
  • Bronze (37): Senior 6 | Junior 16 | Cadet 15

 

Gold Medal Brekdown – Male & Female Divisions

Ontario’s dominance was evident across both male and female divisions:

  • Senior Gold (9): Male 4 | Female 5
  • Junior Gold (11): Male 5 | Female 6
  • Cadet Gold (6): Male 2 | Female 4

Total Kyorugi Gold: 26 (Male 11 | Female 15)

This consistent gold-medal success across every age category highlights the strength of Ontario’s high performance athlete pathway.

Poomsae (Individual Events): Technical Excellence on Display

Ontario athletes also delivered a standout performance in Individual Poomsae, earning 25 medals, including 13 gold, through technical precision and composure.

With momentum from the 2026 National Championships, Ontario athletes now turn their focus toward the upcoming 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 2026 World Taekwondo Championship in Gimcheon, Korea and 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Chuncheon, South Korea, continuing to build on a foundation of excellence as part of Team Canada.
