Taekwondo Ontario: Supporting Athletes and Coaches to Podium Success

Toronto, ON – March 15, 2025 – Taekwondo Ontario is proud to announce its continued commitment to helping athletes excel and achieve their goals. We are dedicated to supporting the incredible coaches who train and prepare our athletes for podium success.

To recognize and reward the outstanding performances at the 2025 Canadian National Championships, Taekwondo Ontario is offering financial support to athletes in the “Train to Compete” and “Train to Win” stages of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework. This support extends to the dedicated coaches who have guided these athletes to success. This initiative is based on criteria that are equitable and performance-based, aligning with the organization’s goals.

President Master David Silverman stated, “We are incredibly proud of our talented Ontario athletes and their performance at this year’s National Championships. As we continue to lay the groundwork for Ontario’s continued success, Taekwondo Ontario is pleased to provide this support to the athletes and coaches.”

In total, Taekwondo Ontario will be providing $28,250 CAD in financial support to athletes and coaches.

Athlete Support Criteria:

  • Each Kyorugi and Poomsae athlete who placed 1st at the 2025 Canadian National Championships in the Junior and Senior divisions and participated in at least one provincial training camp in 2024-2025 will receive $1,000 CAD.
  • Athletes must agree to the terms and conditions of the athlete agreement and commit to competing at the 2026 Canadian National Championships and attend the required provincial training camps in 2025-26, or a portion of their funding will need to be returned to Taekwondo Ontario.
  • Kyorugi athletes in their overlap year who place 1st in both Junior and Senior divisions are eligible to receive funding for both achievements.
  • Poomsae athletes who place 1st in multiple events are eligible to receive funding only once.

Coach Support Criteria:

  • Coaches of eligible athletes who placed 1st at the 2025 Canadian National Championships must have coached their athlete at the Nationals and actively participated in our provincial training camps in 2024-25 to be eligible for support.
  • NCCP DC Certified Coaches who meet these criteria will receive $500 CAD.
  • NCCP PC Certified Coaches who meet these criteria will receive $750 CAD.
  • The funding for coaches is per individual coach, irrespective of the number of 1st place medallists produced.
